Ms. Godson's 3rd Grade Students are actively engaged in their interactive EveryDay Math lesson!
On October 18th, students in the 6th grade science class participated in the LabVenture program at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute in Portland where they measured live lobsters, examined plankton under a microscope, and used interactive multi-touch stations to analyze Gulf of Maine data sets. We wholeheartedly appreciate Ms. Tardif's dedication to partnering with scientific organizations both regionally and across the state to offer these enriching experiences for our budding scientists!
On October 2nd, students in the 6th grade science class boarded the Steamboat Katahdin for a science-based educational cruise on Moosehead Lake where they learned about watersheds, invasive plant species, and aquatic ecosystems. Moosehead Marine Museum partnered with AMC, Boothbay Sea & Science Center, and Lake Stewards of Maine to offer this science-based program to students. Thank you to Ms. Tardif for orchestrating the collaboration involved in this rich Greenville - Moosehead Lake Region experience!

It is HOMECOMING Week and students are preparing for the annual Black Light Homecoming Dance for Saturday!
Highlights from our Specials Programming - Mr. Shaw took out the hula hoops for 1st Grade PE FUN while Officer Guay invited Fire Chief Murray to campus for Fire Prevention Month!
Our PreK Program for 4 year olds is filled with exciting learning experiences!
1. Mrs. Miller came in for Guidance this week to talk about calming our bodies. We watched and followed different videos that demonstrated breathing and stretching techniques for calming our body and mind.
2. We start the morning with fine motor bins - examples: sorting with tweezers, building, beading, puzzles, counting with clothespins.
3. In our dramatization center in Unit 1 (Family) we are learning about how to take care of babies and how to safely transport them using strollers, baby carriers, and car seats.
4. We have been exploring different ways to create art. Right now we are using watercolors to create pictures - this student created a rainbow picture.
5. In our discovery center - we have been using our water tables and are exploring water wheels. We are exploring what makes them go fast/slow, what happens when you pour more/less water, and what the water feels/sounds like.
6. In our manipulative center we are using and exploring different textures.

Hello -This is a reminder that tomorrow, Thursday, October 4, is an Early Release Day, students will be dismissed at 11:30 am. Additionally, Friday is a Teacher Workshop Day, and as a result, there will be no classes for students. Lastly, school will be closed on Monday, October 9 to observe Indigenous Peoples' Day.
Pandemic EBT:
Over the course of this week, 2023 Summer P-EBT benefits of $120 were issued to over 141,000 traditional students. These included students enrolled in June of 2023 in Special Provision 2 and CEP schools or those eligible for F/R benefits in non-special provision schools. All of these benefits will be available tomorrow, Friday, September 8. More information including the reconciliation application, and the application for homeschooled or fully virtual students is available at https://www.maine.gov/dhhs/ofi/programsservices/food-supplement. This website also includes information on how benefits are issued and how households can return the benefit if they do not want it.
Our district is a Provisional II School, which allows our students to receive free meals. It is our understanding that as a result of participating in this program the State of Maine sent out EBT cards to all families. These cards are used for food purchases and we believe that the amount is $120.00 per child. It is believed that this is a one time disbursement. Mrs. Eastland's First Grade class produced a How To guide entitled "How to Build with Kapla Blocks" to assist Miss Kelley's Kindergarteners build trees with these plank-like blocks used for experimental building.
Additionally, take a look at the wonderful artwork from Miss Kelley's Kindergarteners - they have been exploring watercolors at the easel and delving into "The Dot" project which encourages them to simply make a dot and see where their creativity takes them.
Science isn't the only field that benefits from our laboratory facilities; Mrs. Poiss fully utilizes our functional art studio when engaging students ranging from Kindergarten to High School. The "Pennies for your Thoughts" project seamlessly transitioned into a watercolor assignment, where students created individual squares that will eventually come together to form a canvas quilt.
The last two weeks have been busy for our science classes - our High School Natural Resources Class presented their "Map of Place" at the Maine Forest Collaborative Cohort Day while our 6th Grade Science class collected macroinvertebrates from the brook along the nature trail behind GCS and our 4th and 5th Graders honed their coding and robotics skills on the auditorium stage awaiting the finishing touches to our new elementary science lab!
